A closer look at
what they'll learn.
Fritzie brings reading, spelling and writing together through stories, from Kindergarten through Grade 3.
The app is launching soon. Explore the planned Maple sequence for Kindergarten, followed by 100 lessons each in Willow, Acorn and Oak. Companion worksheets for 120 lessons are ready to download today.
Practice that builds over time
Read with Fritzie
Fritzie reads the richer narration. Your child reads lines using the spelling patterns they have learned.
Put ideas into words
Writing begins with sentences and develops into longer responses. Story Quest gives children a book of their own to write.
Choose the support they need
Use Grade Level or Gentle support for each skill. Reading, vocabulary, comprehension and grammar can be adjusted separately.
Maple Trail · Kindergarten
Begin with shared stories, letter sounds and little words. Fritzie reads the narration while your child joins in with words and short lines using sounds they have learned.
This is the planned Kindergarten sequence. Maple stories are coming soon. Keep each session to about 10 minutes or less, and return to a story over several sittings when needed.
Listen, talk and read together
Talk about the characters and what happened. Fritzie reads the richer story language while your child takes small reading turns.
Make a start with writing
Practice letter formation, build and spell familiar words, then try short responses with support.
First little words
Match letters with their sounds, blend sounds into words and practice forming letters. Begin with short a and short i words such as mat, fan, sit and pin.
More short vowel words
Add short o and short u, then mix familiar sounds to read words such as cot, mop, bug and sun. Change one sound at a time to make a new word.
All five short vowels
Introduce short e and the remaining basic letters. Read words such as wet, hen and leg, and practice endings in words such as cups and pins.
Longer words with blends
Hear each consonant sound in words such as nest, hand, clap, frog and stamp. Build accuracy before speed.
Spelling patterns at the end
Explore ff, ll, ss, zz and ck in words such as puff, hill, mess, buzz and duck. Learn the patterns in ball, roll and pull.
Letters that work together
Read sh, th, ch, wh and ph in familiar story words. Compare these letter pairs with blends where each consonant keeps its own sound.
New endings and a first look at silent e
Practice ng and nk in sing and sink. Compare cap with cape and pin with pine to hear how silent e changes the vowel.
More silent e words
Build on those patterns with words such as note, these, cube and flute. Reread shared stories using both short and long vowel words.
Word endings and syllables
Explore es, ed and ing in words such as wishes, jumped and camping. Compare open and closed syllables, as in he and hen.
Reading words in parts
Put familiar words together, as in sunset. Read two syllable words such as rabbit, napkin, robot and pilot, while revisiting earlier patterns.
Willow Trail · Grade 1
First sounds become words and sentences. Children practice spelling and begin to write about the stories they read.
